The past couple of weeks have been pretty rough. Little Edison is normally such a happy, smiley little baby. However, lately he has been fussy and cranky the majority of the time, screaming in pain and grabbing his gums. The pediatrician examined him at his 5 month appointment and said he is just having a rough time with teething. I went through the list of so many recommended things to help him – frozen cold washcloths, Sophie the Giraffe, frozen carrots to gnaw on, teething tablets, teething gel, Tylenol, etc. Nothing was calming or helping him. I started to feel completely at my wits end since nothing was really helping stop the non-stop screaming that would go on for days at a time.
I finally decided to try getting him an amber teething necklace, and that seems to have been helping take the edge of his pain. The amber is fossilized tree resin, and it secretes an acid into the skin that helps with pain relief. Ever since I put that necklace on him the first day, he seems to have calmed down significantly. He is even starting to take naps during the day that are longer than 5 minutes which is a HUGE improvement for us! It has been almost a week now with the necklace and I definitely think it has been helping him! Someone should seriously rename these as Amber Miracle Necklaces or Mommy Sanity-Saver Necklaces!
He still has had his fussy moments since I got the necklace, but those moments seem to be more easily remedied by “pushing the baby reset button” as I jokingly refer to it: bringing him out into the garden to look at the flowers and plants. I was even able to catch up on a bunch of neglected detail work on our front garden while he took a very long nap the other day! I can’t wait to get caught up in the back and get our vegetable garden going again.
In case you are in the Southern California area, I got our amber teething necklace at Granola Babies in Costa Mesa. I highly recommend this store! Definitely worth the drive. I read that you have to be careful of where you purchase your amber jewelry due to safety hazards and some fraudulent companies selling plastic necklaces and trying to claim they are amber. I would not worry about any of those concerns with anything purchased from a reputable store like Granola Babies.
